Sketchbook Painting III

Here's a photo of a painting done in my sketchbook. I've been experimenting with looser brush strokes and not getting such perfect lined color transitions. Also, primary colors have continued to be a very comforting palette to work with...

Traveling Artist II

After moving to Brooklyn while still working in Manhattan, I use public transportation more than ever now. Most of the time I love being surrounded by people but there are definitely times it can be overwhelming. Crowds can be especially daunting when trying to draw, paint, or create. I do love to create in the presence of another artist/person who is also creating. However in a setting like the train where usually no one else is drawing, it can be intimidating for me. I'm working at feeling more comfortable in public when it comes to working on artwork. Here are a couple more sketches I've done in transit.

Journal Drawings

Writing has always been a form of expression that I've enjoyed practicing. Some things are just better or easier expressed through words rather than an image. There's something about how certain words look or sound next to each other that creates a much different experience for me than any other visual expression. Of course I like taking creative liberties with grammar, spelling, and handwriting/text. I'll sometimes add words or phrases to my pieces but I also have a small notebook specifically for writing. These entries are purely me and written without the intent of sharing with anyone. So for now, I'll share a couple of sketches I've done in my small journal.

Ceiling Mural II

These are some pictures from the collaborative ceiling mural I was apart of creating. This was my best friends room who actually just moved. Needless to say this mural probably won't ever be completed now. However, it was so much fun starting this project with my friends. I love getting people who don't consider themselves "artist" to create or paint. More times than not, they surprise themselves with what they can visually produce. I've always said I believe everyones a little bit of an artist.

Traveling Artist

I've always enjoyed traveling and experiencing different parts of the world. It seems, even more than ever now, that I'm always in transit. I'm continuously trying to remain creative through the sometimes stagnant aesthetic of the NJtransit train and MTA subway system. As a personal goal, I try to always sketch something every time I'm on the train or subway. Below are a couple of the drawings I've done in pen while in transit.

Sketchbook Painting II

Below is a painting I did in my sketchbook using acrylic paint and ink pen. When I first scanned the picture, it came out black and white by mistake. However, I actually like it better  than colored version.

Visual Diary II

During my internet hiatus one of my main creative focuses was a new series I titled "Visual Diary". This body of work is important to me because it feels most the therapeutic out of any of my visual expressions. I've posted the full continuing series on artbyaustin.carbonmade.com but below are two illustrations from the collection.

Back on the Blog

Hello Internet World, long time no see! A lot has happened these past few months but I'm happy to say I was able to create through it all. I'm ready now to show you what I've been up to as well as sharing my upcoming creative ventures with you. Above is a self portrait I did in  pen while laying in front of a mirror.
